Let's pretend… is this what you do?
Understanding & managing your pretender
In times of low self-value and dominating limiting beliefs, we often resort to wearing a pretender mask. Angela Cox, founder of Paseda360, initially developed the Pretender Model, which outlines four distinct pretender positions.
These positions include:
- The Perfectionist
- The People Pleaser
- The Persecutor of Self
- The Persecutor of Others
While the first three are commonly acknowledged, the 'persecutor of others' position remains frequently concealed. It emerges when we deflect blame onto others or harbour resentment silently. Even without spoken words, this stance reveals itself through subtle nonverbal cues, which I've been noticing within my clients since I trained as a Paseda360 coach!
These pretender positions serve as protective mechanisms. However, delving into the root causes behind our need for the mask enables our authentic selves to emerge. Through the 'stop being stuck' process, we can liberate ourselves from these behaviours and experience the ease that comes with living authentically.
