You're bonkers said the man with the caravan
You probably won't know that we have a caravan, a lovely Bailey Unicorn Cadiz. We bought it because we like taking our two dogs away with us, and we like the freedom you have to go where you like. You might see us in Gloucestershire quite a bit, as our daughter lives there having not returned from Uni!
I don't drive with the caravan hitched up these days. I don't need to but I know I can, if I had to!
In 1995, with a 10 day old baby, a 14 month old toddler, my 12 year old daughter and my mum… I thought it'd be a good idea to take my parents caravan to the seaside, whilst my then husband was on a weeks residential training course. What could go wrong - well nothing did. That is until we arrived a the campsite and saw our allocated pitch was on a considerable slope. Now, had my dad been there, it wouldn't have phased him at all. To me, first timer, I thought I can't do this. Then from a caravan nearby came a voice, 'fancy a cuppa after your drive' it was a lovely lady offering the one thing I needed and didn't have. So as we agreed to take up her hospitality, her husband was despatched to get some ramps! Then he and another lovely man, sorted the caravan out on the sloping pitch and made it level. They said I was 'bonkers' at doing the drive and a holiday with a newborn. Well maybe I was a bit overly ambitious. We did have a great holiday, made lovely friends with the caravanners around us. It was then I knew I loved caravanning and caravan people can be so lovely and helpful.
Sometimes when you go and do something that seems a bit 'bonkers' you learn something about yourself and other people.
You can be bonkers… go on, I dare you!
